Meghan Hedley
Raised in Southern California and influenced for 31 years by the landscape of the west, my work may be described as abstract landscape: a celebration, contemplation, and nod of gratitude to nature and the elemental cycles that both the natural world and human beings follow. I am an interdisciplinary entrepreneur devoted to art and healing- a painter and installation artist, teacher, and wellness practitioner, integrating ancient and modern healing modalities with my art practice- the dance of art, healing, and nature is carefully and playfully interwoven into my work. I received my degree in Fine Arts and Philosophy at George Fox University (2010) and my Masters in Fine Arts in Painting at Washington State University (2013), followed by 4 years of Chinese Medicine study in Portland (2015-2019) including acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, herbs, and massage. I have shown work nationally in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, and New York, and internationally in England, Ireland, East Africa, and Italy. I spend my time painting for shows, painting personalized commissions for patrons, learning as much as I can about everything I can, and wandering nature with my old studio beagle Bette.
My work is a form of abstract landscape of both the person and the natural world. I am intrigued by the meeting of language and landscape, and I continue to build and expand my visual language of expressive color and mark-making in my paintings. I am a creative researcher, taking in the influence of landscapes that I have spent time with and calling the spirit of a place into my studio practice, and integrating this with the internal landscape of the human. Nature fuels my painting process, and my style loosely captures the essence of land and place. I encourage viewers to be open and flexible with the work, drawing out their own unique resonances and experiences. I believe wholeheartedly that the experience of art is an experience of healing and full aliveness!
