Artist Reception Saturday, August 24th from 2-4pm
In this exhibition, two iconic Oregon artists portray the lively spirits of the local flora and fauna. The beauty and bounty found here in the Pacific Northwest has a ring of legend to it; creative imagination is a natural response to its fascination. In that sense, these artworks can be thought of as a product of nature’s gifts. With bright colors, Michael Orwick depicts the subtle language of our environment in his landscape paintings, while Rip Caswell captures the spirits of native creatures in expert and expressive bronze. Enter into a thoughtful encounter with the natural world through these artists' inspired visions.
VITIS VINIFERA
Featuring abstract paintings by James Frey
June 4th - August 10th , 2024
Reception on Saturday, June 22nd, from 2-4 pm
Following the Fall grape harvest each year, the vineyard goes dormant, and the vines begin to store energy for the winter months. The potential of the next vintage lies buried deep within the grapevine until the ground slowly begins to warm in the Spring. After long months of no activity, this latent vitality explodes from the vine as buds break from their winter sleep and a new vintage bursts forth.
Winemaker and painter James Frey captured this explosion of energy from the vine in his new series, Vitis Vinifera. To the naked eye, the Springtime bud break produces simple yellow-green leaves and tiny pink clusters; but to the eye of a winemaker this metamorphosis represents a wild kaleidoscope of colors as the complex and wonderful potential of a new vintage finds a beginning.
